In the case of Hawkworld, it meant reinventing the Silver Age Hawkman. Nevertheless, it made perfect sense to focus on these concepts, as the new origins could be used to establish how the new DC continuity differed from what came before. Beforehand, these origins were rarely if ever focused on, something which is a stark contrast to today.
